Our popular low-alcohol pale ale is inspired by tall tales of the ghostly ships that haunted the shores of Walberswick. The seeds of those stories were likely sown by smugglers in a plot to keep the coast clear. There are tales it tastes just like real beer. And that’s because it is. We didn’t want to restrict fermentation, so we brew it in the normal way – just like all our other beers; adding the lovely fruity flavours you get from a full fermentation, before smuggling the alcohol away. This allows Ghost Ship 0.5% Pale Ale to set sail full of its original characteristics.

    Fruity but dry, Ghost Ship 0.5% packs a punch with its bold bitterness, and fruity notes. Vegan and with just 12 calories per 100ml, it's guilt-free too.

    A 'proper ale' with lots of hoppiness.

    The drink is smooth and fruity with dominating citrus notes though perhaps slightly sweeter than anticipated. The bitterness is still there, though, and would only be noticeable in a side by side comparison. It’s likely that if you’re a fan of the original, you will also be a fan of the low alcohol version too

How does it taste

Ghost Ship 0.5% Pale Ale is brewed with East Anglian Malts Pale Ale Cara Malts which add depth and those moreish, biscuity hints that we love. We also use rye grown by our chairman on his farm just up the road from the brewery, plus Citra and a blend of UK and US hops for that famed citrus finish. Enjoy whispers of aromatic elderflower, bold citrus flavours, and hints of warming rye spice.
